It is a scary statistic, but 1 in 4 women and 1 in 26 men have experienced some type of sexual violence/attempted sexual violence throughout their lifetime. Nationwide, 81% of women and 43% of men reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime. Currently, Marion County residents do not have an independently operated certified sexual assault center. Victims and the Marion County Sexual Assault Center are forced to seek services operated by third parties/surrounding counties.
Over the past several months, various community leaders have joined forces to form the new Marion County Sexual Assault Center (non-profit organization), which provides 24/7, no cost services to all victims of sexual assault. It is our goal to give Marion County the self-sustaining, fully operational center survivors and their families deserve! Survivors need a comfortable safe place to receive a sexual assault exam, learn about their legal rights, and receive counseling and support services in a private and discreet setting. Going through a sexual assault is arguably one of the most traumatic events someone can endure. Survivors do not go through it alone with the Marion County Sexual Assault Center!
Your donations provide essential resources such as the 24-Hour Rape Crisis Hotline, information and referrals for victim support services, crisis intervention, advocacy/accompaniment, assistance navigating the legal system, and on-site counseling/therapy services to anyone who has ever been sexually assaulted. Another critical focus of the Center is to raise community awareness of the dangers of sexual violence by promoting education and awareness on prevention.
